The term “Adivasi” means Adi-Original , Vasi -inhabitant .These groups are presumed to from the oldest ethnological sector of Population’ : Indian confederation of Indigenous and Tribal Population (ICITP)”
According to the eminent Historian M.Benergee. “The taboos about food and intermarriage have hinther to prevent them from being emulated into one . Otherwise they may said to harmoniously amalgamated as one nation under the generic name “kol” better the ABORIGENES or under the present nomenclature the ADIVASIS.
Therefore the community who proud to be called themselves Adivasis are ADVASIS : Oranoan ,Munda ,Santhal , Kharia,Ho, Bhils,Khoea, Juang, Gond, Khond, etc. are known as Adivasi. They are also Adivasis of Assam Because they were the first Settlers of Assam and India.
